UAE Leads the Way in Global Health and Well-being on World Health Day
Marking World Health Day on April 7, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering commitment to health care as a vital investment in the nation’s and the world’s future.
In a message shared on social media, Sheikh Mohamed stated, “Investing in health is an investment in society’s future.” He emphasized the need to nurture a culture of healthy living throughout the Emirates and beyond.
The UAE leader also voiced strong support for international collaborations that harness science and innovation to tackle urgent healthcare challenges, reinforcing the country’s role as a proactive force in global health advocacy.
Driving Healthcare at Home and Abroad
Recent years have seen the UAE take major strides in expanding health services and fostering a wellness-first mindset. These efforts include initiatives to encourage healthier lifestyles at home, as well as strategic contributions to global health programs aimed at eradicating preventable diseases.
A key milestone came in March with the launch of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity. This pioneering initiative is set to deliver life-changing care to underserved communities across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Over five years, the foundation aims to reach more than 500 million people across 50+ countries, bolstering health systems and improving medical infrastructure where it’s needed most.
Innovation Through Research and Access
In January, the UAE further cemented its leadership in medical innovation by opening the Stem Cells Research Centre at UAE University in Al Ain. This centre is expected to boost the country’s standing in regenerative medicine, train a new generation of Emirati scientists, and form global partnerships to expand the regional stem cell market—projected to grow from $711.8 million in 2024 to $1.3 billion by 2030.
Another major leap toward inclusive healthcare was made with the national rollout of a basic health insurance plan for all private sector and domestic workers. As of January 1, the scheme ensures coverage across all emirates, establishing a unified standard that previously varied across regions.
