Prince Moulay Rachid opened the 18th International Agriculture Show in Morocco (SIAM) in Meknes on Monday, with organisers expecting more than 1.1 million visitors and participation from 70 countries, positioning the event as a key platform for agricultural policy and international cooperation.
Held from April 20 to 28 under the theme of livestock sustainability and food sovereignty, the event reflects Morocco’s push to strengthen agricultural resilience amid climate pressure and rising food security concerns.
The fair spans 37 hectares and brings together more than 1,500 exhibitors, 500 cooperatives and 200 breeders, according to organisers.
Portugal is the guest of honour, alongside delegations from countries including France, Turkey, Mali and Côte d’Ivoire, underlining the fair’s role as a regional and international meeting point for agricultural stakeholders.
During the opening ceremony, Moulay Rachid awarded several geographical indications and labels of origin to agricultural cooperatives, including products from Draa-Tafilalet, Beni Mellal-Khenifra and Marrakech-Safi, in a move aimed at strengthening value chains and product differentiation.
He also toured multiple sections of the exhibition, including livestock production, food safety and agricultural advisory services, as well as institutional and private sector pavilions such as those of the OCP Group and financial partners.
Since its launch, SIAM has become a central fixture in Morocco’s agricultural calendar, bringing together policymakers, investors and producers at a time when the sector faces structural challenges linked to water scarcity, climate volatility and market competitiveness.
The 2026 edition places particular emphasis on livestock performance, animal health and the economic efficiency of farming systems, aligning with broader national efforts to modernise agriculture while maintaining food supply stability.
